The California New Motor Voter Act

WHEREAS, an estimated 600,000 San Diegans and 7 million Californians are eligible to vote but unregistered; and

WHEREAS, ensuring that all eligible voters can vote and robust civic participation are stated goals of the California Democratic Party platform; and

WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1461, also known as The California New Motor Voter Act, provides an opportunity to bring millions of eligible voters into the electoral process by providing data already being collected by the DMV to election officials to automatically register eligible voters while providing an opt out option and protecting the public's right to privacy;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the San Diego County Democratic Party declares its support for the passage and implementation of AB 1461, also known as the California New Motor Voter Act, in pursuit of increased voter participation which benefits a stronger democratic process;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the San Diego County Democratic Party will forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor and all Democratic members of the State Assembly and State Senate.
