With nearly all ballots now counted, San Diego Democrats scored some major successes despite record-low turnout and a rough political climate. Fully 64% of the local candidates endorsed by the San Diego County Democratic Party won their races. As a result, Democrats will pick up new mayorships and gain seats and majorities on city councils and school boards in every part of the county.
County Democratic Party Chair Francine Busby: “By vetoing the city’s minimum wage increase, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer is delaying much-needed financial relief for tens of thousands of local families. In addition to holding back $260 million from the paychecks of hard-working San Diegans, this veto overturns the guarantee of five earned sick days for every employee in the city.
