Tracking Local Democratic Gains Over Time

The electoral victories that we celebrated in November also boosted a key long-term metric: the percentage of local public offices held by Democrats. As a result -- for the first time in recent memory -- a majority of municipal offices and council majorities in San Diego County are Democratic.

Democrats can now count 51% of municipal officeholders throughout the county as our own. We also hold a majority on 10 out of 18 city councils: Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, National City, San Diego, and Solana Beach.

As compared with two years ago, gains have also been made in mayoral and school board seats held by Democrats, with majorities a foreseeable goal at those levels as well.
