WHEREAS major corporations are collecting the personal information of California consumers, our children, and our devices without our knowledge and selling it to companies without our consent and failing to implement reasonable security measures, which puts Californians’ identity at risk; and
WHEREAS the California state Constitution gives each citizen an "inalienable right" to pursue and obtain privacy, a right which has been threatened as corporate special interests line up to oppose common-sense consumer privacy rights in California; and
WHEREAS Californians should have the right to know what personal information is collected about us, our devices and our families, stop the sale of that personal data, and hold corporations accountable for data breaches and breaking the law;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the San Diego County Democratic Party believes that California should be at the cutting edge and that a 21st-century economy needs 21st century policy to protect consumers and working families; and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the San Diego County Democratic Party officially supports the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, an initiative which will appear on the November 2018 ballot to empower Californians to take back control of our personal information.
